Dr. Fishman is a clinical psychologist specializing in individual psychotherapy, and in educational and psychological assessment. She maintains a private practice in Portland, OR, as well as providing on-site workshops and presentations to educational programs, and to private and public sector businesses.
With almost 20 years experience as a clinician, Dr. Fishman received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Miami. She provides treatment and assessment services to a broad range of clients. Among her areas of expertise are diagnosis and treatment of adults with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Fishman works closely with physicians, providing supportive treatment for patients and families dealing with the psychological distress and feelings of loss that accompany major illness. Examples of medical conditions that often warrant psychological treatment include diabetes, heart disease, chronic pain conditions, fibromyalgia, and neuromuscular disease. Dr. Fishman has extensive experience providing pre-surgical assessment of bariatric patients, and both pre-surgical preparation and post-surgical individual and group psychotherapy with weight-loss surgery/bariatric patients.
Speaking at National and International Conferences, and to both professional and general audiences, Dr. Fishman has presented on topics in her areas of specialization, including adult Learning Disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Asperger's Disorder, speech/language development, and on eating disorders and the emotions of eating.
Dr. Fishman is a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. She incorporates a blend of theoretical and practical approaches, drawing upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. With sensitivity and compassion, she works with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals.
